Eaton Veteran Answers 'Taps'

Special to The State Journal:

EATON RAPIDS, Feb. 27 -- Mr. Holloway, one of the few remaining veterans of the Civil war here, died at the home of his son, Earl H. Holloway, here Monday. Funeral services will be held at the Rice and Pettit Funeral home here at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant at 2 o'clock.

Mr. Holloway was born in Ohio in 1845. He served with Company E, 44th Indiana infantry, during the Civil war, and in 1866 moved to Isabella county, Michigan, where he married Miss Sadie E. Hapner in 1920, and while there was a member of Charles T. Foster post of the G.A.R.

He is survived by seven of his nine children. They are Harry A. Holloway of Arkansas, Mrs. Rosa A. Marlatt of Lansing, Mrs. Jessie B. Koble of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Nellie M. Weston of Arkansas, Mrs. Emma H. Collimore of Winn, Mich., Mrs. Bessie G. McCully of Lansing, and the son at whose house he died. He is also survived by one brother, Frank Holloway of Saginaw, and 33 grandchildren and 41 great-grandchildren.

William Holloway, 89, died Monday, at the home of his son, Earl Holloway of Eaton township, near Eaton Rapids. He is survived by seven children, Earl, with whom he lived and Harry in Arkansas, Mrs. Rosa Marlatt of Lansing, Mrs. Jessie B. Koble of Grand Rapids, Mrs. Nellie Watson in Arkansas, Mrs. Emma Collimore of Wynn and Mrs. Bessie G. McCully of Lansing; one brother, Frank Holloway of Saginaw; thirty-tree grandchildren, and fourty-one great-grandchildren. Funeral at the Pettit & Rice funeral home at a 10 a.m. Wednesday. Burial at Mt. Pleasant. Mr. Holloway was a Civil War veteran.
